Here we list 5 emerging West Sydney artists that you need to know.

01. FISHEYE FM

Blackett duo, Fisheye FM, have had one of the most thrilling come-ups over the course of 2023. Made up of Angelo and Rachelle, their relationship as a couple, and their humbling love for music from a young, birthed the experimental sonic experience that encompasses Fisheye FM. Together, they indulge in soundscapes that traverse the likes of house, pop, alternative R&B, and soul through tracks like ‘C U Dance Again’ and ‘LOVERS ESCAPE’, while still maintaining a sound that is authentically them. With a goal intent on making your hips sway through every single song, Fisheye FM are now comfortably seated at the same table as the homegrown artists that have inspired them to reach the point they are at in music. Having taken over the stages of Sydney’s Shades Bar more than once this year, there is no doubt in our minds that this duo will be taking to some of our country’s major stages soon.

02. JOSEF

Born and raised in the Greater West, and now residing in the South West suburbs of Sydney, rapper and film director, Josef, has allowed his creative ventures to blossom all over the area. His double-sided single ‘Mind At Ease / Ten Toes (feat. Yibby) inspires a sensational and nostalgic feeling of growing up in Western Sydney suburbia. His delicate and nonchalant delivery unravels sentimental nods to his family, homies and the life he’s carved out for himself. With honourable representation through Western Sydney record label, Beat Kitchen Records, the Cook Islander-Maori artist has been able to showcase his ability to tell stories not only through music, but through film. You might’ve heard Josef lend his sleek flow to the joint Yibby and Chub.e EP, The Chubby Tape, on the track, Chocolate, or even seen him working with producer Scruffs and tee8. Needless to say, the future is bright and ready for Josef’s takeover.

03. AR THE ETERNAL

A man of many names, like Liverpool’s lengest, the Crash Bandicoot of Campbelltown, and the Hasbulla of Casula, AR The Eternal is a criminally underrated lyrical connoisseur. Hailing from Dharawal Country, AR has created a necessary sense of urgency around his artistry since he first emerged on the scene in 2020. AR The Eternal sets the bar incredibly high for Western Sydney rap by slaughtering any verse he touches with feistiness and rightfully-boastful punchlines. His recent double-sided EP, the Outside demos SIDE A and B, showcases the dichotomy of AR as an artist, as he dives into his classic, hard-hitting rap chops on one side, before slowing things down, with a soulful, r&b offering on the other. Also manning the mic of FBi Radio’s THE KICKBXCK, a show that champions hip-hop far and wide, AR The Eternal is determined to ride as many waves as he possibly can, as he ventures further and further into all things music. Keep your eyes peeled for more from this artist.

04. REEZY

Mount Druitt’s REEZY is someone who is already turning heads with their profound, stirring R&B contributions this year. Part of the 92wrld collective alongside fellow Western Sydney group, Planet Vegeta, her silky, soulful vocals are what have marked her as a distinctive, and thrilling new voice amongst our country’s R&B scene. Her recent drop, FLOWERS, sees her harmonies hypnotically glide across a bass-heavy production, providing the perfect balance of soft, sweet, and gritty. It’s clear that REEZY is holding her own amongst her 92wrld counterparts, and we’re eager to see what more is in store for this young artist.

05. NO INTENT

Parramatta-based rap duo, No Intent, have had their teeth sunken into the Western Sydney rap game since 2019. Made up of artists Isidora and Stevey Slice, No Intent’s sound and steez are unmistakable. They draw on inspiration from artists like the Fugees and Cypress Hill to Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix to exemplify a message that is anti-establishment and anti-capitalism, while making a defining critique on greed, poverty, drugs and alcohol. No Intent cement their “no bullshit” attitude with uncompromising and brash songs, enveloped by a fusion of funk and hip-hop production, taken from sounds of the 70s and 90s. Their latest single, ‘MR & MRS PSYCHO’ is no different, as they slang a head-bopping hook, and each takes the mic with vivacity. If No Intent weren’t already on your radar, now is the time to have them.
